How many circles are there in saggital plane?

While in horizontal and frontal planes there are 8 circles in each, it seems that there are only 4 in saggital. At least this is something that Dima tells us here in Minsk.

The funny thing is that a friend of mine were able to fined 12 circles in saggital plane. But most probably that due to the fact that we do not have enough "feeling" most of them are breaking our structure and some principals.

Can somebody help me with these circles?

Thanks,

Vlad

Well, it looks like the Dima and Russians persuaded me that there are only 4.

the way i see it (practically speaking) there are only 4. the difference is the number of axis we're working with.

in frontal and horizontal planes, we have two axis (basically the shoulder joint)

in the saggital plane the elbow basically becomes the axis and due to it's hinge nature the range of motion is naturally more limited and so we go from 8 down to 4 circles.

although the Sifu as intimated that it IS POSSIBLE to create more than 4 but that the level of coordination needed is extreme.

I see. Dima and Russian guys gave basically the same answer.

This becomes interesting. Did he say that? Or just made a small hint that it might be possible?

The reason I aks is not only due to the fact that I was able to make a drawing of them on paper.

I was able to do all the 12 cricles in real life. Unfortunately I do not have enough listening power to say whether they have been real saggital. Or it was simply 12 ways to move you hands in saggital plane (of course, with some body movement). And it looks like in some of the movements there will be no power, or I would even break my structure in some way.

Anyway, that's interesting and somewhat intriguing to know that Sifu said that it might be possible.

he said something like "just do four. four will be good enough. if i want to do more than four, then one will be going this (demonstrates) and one will be going this (demonstrates, stops, shakes head and laughs). four will be good enough!"

i think i might actually have that one video.

This IS very interesting. Thank you. I was already starting to think that I'm somewhat crazy with these circles :)

I'd be really glad if you shared it some day or another.

i'll see if i can find it but i'm not sure which disc it was on. maybe i'll just start watching them all. it'll be good review for me anyway, but i have definitely over 15 hours worth of workshop video to go through.

No problem, it's not urgent. Just would be great if I found some evidence that I'm not the only one :)

Hey guy's I think there are 6 easily done.

1) both hands, forward, up, back and down.
2) both hands, reverse of the above.
3) & 4) out of phase of the two above.
5) one hand , forward, up, back and down, whilst the other, back, up, forward and down.
6) reverse the above

7) & 8) are more difficult, but just other variations of 5&6.
7) one hand, forward, up, back and down, the other, forward, down, back and up.
8) reverse the one above.

I find it easier to make the movements square at first and then knock off the corners

Er, I hope that all makes sense.

regards
Steve

With Steve's description I was able to do also the 7 and 8.
Although the explanation of Dima and Ashe with one axe only looks still very plausible.
Strange.
